One City, Very Different Floors

Epoxy flooring in Fort Worth covers a wider range of slabs than almost anywhere else in North Texas. The Census Bureau puts the city at 1,028,117 residents as of mid-2025, with about 57% of homes owner-occupied and a median owner-occupied value of $303,000. That mix means floors range from two-car garages in newer subdivisions to detached garages behind older houses and concrete in shops and distribution buildings. Garage floor epoxy is the most common request, but the right system depends on what the slab sees every day.

What a Fort Worth garage floor goes through

Fort Worth sits in a humid subtropical climate. August averages a high of 96 °F, and the city's record is 113 °F. Winters are mild but not frost-free: January averages a low of 35 °F, and snow averages about 2.6 inches a year. A garage slab here bakes in summer, sweats on humid mornings and gets the occasional freeze. Hot tires, dripping air-conditioner lines and road grime tracked in from wet streets all wear on bare concrete. A properly bonded coating seals the surface so oil and dirt wipe up instead of soaking in.

Coatings we install across the city

  • Garage floor epoxy: a full-broadcast or solid-color system for daily parking and storage
  • Epoxy flake floors: vinyl chips broadcast into the base coat for texture and to hide dust
  • Polyaspartic floor coating: a faster-curing topcoat that holds its color better in sunlight
  • Metallic epoxy floors: a poured, marbled look for display garages, game rooms and studios
  • Patio and outdoor concrete coatings: UV-stable systems for porches, pool decks and walkways
  • Commercial and warehouse floor epoxy: thicker builds for forklifts, carts and cleaning chemicals

Warehouse and industrial floors

Fort Worth's north side is home to Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport, which opened in 1989 and is described as the world's first purely industrial airport. Amazon Air, FedEx and BNSF Railway all run operations there. Buildings like these, along with the smaller shops and flex spaces throughout the city, need floors that stand up to steady wheeled traffic and spills. For commercial jobs we start by asking what rolls across the floor, which chemicals touch it and how long the space can be closed, then we spec the coating thickness and topcoat to fit. Work can be phased by bay or section so operations keep moving.

Prep water and the storm drain

Grinding is our main prep method, but some floors need degreasing or rinsing first. Fort Worth's Stormwater Ordinance (Chapter 12.5) makes it an offense to send anything into the storm drain that is not entirely stormwater, and the city lists detergents and oil among the pollutants it watches for. Illicit discharges can carry fines of up to $2,000 per day per offense. We contain and collect cleaning water on the property rather than letting it run down the driveway to the curb, and we vacuum grinding dust instead of washing it out.

Historic districts

Fort Worth has 14 historic districts, including Fairmount, Mistletoe Heights, Chase Court and the Stockyards. The city requires a Certificate of Appropriateness for exterior changes in those districts, and its list of covered work includes driveways and walkways. Coating an interior garage floor is not an exterior change, but if you live in a district and want a front walk or driveway coated, check with the city's historic preservation staff first. We can give you a written scope to submit.

Getting a quote

Call (817) 904-2240 or send a few photos of the floor, including any cracks or stains. We look at the slab in person, test for moisture where needed and give you a written quote. Price depends on the system and the slab's condition; the cost tables on our service pages show published ranges, and your written quote reflects your floor.

Fort Worth Facts That Affect Your Floor

  • Heat and humidity. Fort Worth averages a 96 °F high in August and 34.01 inches of rain a year, with May the wettest month. DFW Airport records an average annual relative humidity of 65.4%, which matters for coating cure times.
  • Hail and severe storms. Supercell thunderstorms in the area can produce large hail and tornadoes; an F3 tornado struck downtown Fort Worth on March 28, 2000.
  • Ownership and home values. About 57.0% of Fort Worth homes are owner-occupied, the median owner-occupied value is $303,000 and 85.7% of residents lived in the same house a year earlier (Census ACS, 2020 to 2024).
  • Strict storm drain rules. The city's Stormwater Ordinance bans any discharge to the storm drain that is not entirely stormwater. Illicit discharges are a criminal offense with fines up to $2,000 per day per offense.
  • An industrial airport. Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport opened December 14, 1989, covers 1,198 acres and hosts an Amazon Air hub, a FedEx regional sorting hub and a BNSF intermodal facility.

Fort Worth Questions

I live in Fairmount. Do I need city approval to coat my garage floor?

Fort Worth requires a Certificate of Appropriateness for exterior changes in its historic districts, and driveways and walkways are on the list. An interior garage floor coating is not an exterior change. If you also want the driveway or front walk coated, ask the city's historic preservation staff before work starts.

Will the summer heat affect installation?

It can. Epoxy cures faster in heat, which shortens working time, so in July and August we often start early in the day and may recommend a polyaspartic topcoat. Humid mornings can also slow curing, so we check conditions on site before we mix.

Can you coat a working warehouse without shutting it down?

Usually the floor can be done in sections. We map out bays or aisles, coat one area at a time and tell you when each section can take foot traffic and when it can take forklifts.

Where does your cleaning water go?

Not into the street. Fort Worth bans non-stormwater discharges to the storm drain, so we collect wash water on the property and vacuum grinding dust rather than rinsing it away.
